Chayah and Peretz were Shlichim to Cape Town in the early 1980s, from Kibbutz Bet Haemek in the Western Galilee. Peretz said “Hamotzi”, the Berachah on the Bread at our Wedding. Sarah and Yeshayahu were Raymond’s Kibbutz Parents on Kibbutz Matzubah in the Western Galilee in 1975Rita Roberts ‘nee Vigevano holding Yair at his Bris. Rita is the Granddaughter of Raymond and David’s maternal grandfather’s mother’s brother. She was “ondergedoke” ie: “Hidden under” during the Second World War. The Vigevanos were in the main from Antwerp in Belgium.
Number 60: Jewish tradition requires the male new-born baby to be circumcised on the 8th day of life, unless health circumstances preclude that. In Yair’s case – he was born prematurely and had jaundice, so this was not possible. He was finally able to have his Brit on the 7th January 1986 on Tuval, on the 15th day of his life.
The Kibbutz is amazing at times like this! A fabulous party was arranged and we just had to arrive! Some close friends and family came to Tuval for this happy (and nerve wracking!) occasion.
