Number 54: We moved in to 15  Alamein Road, Milnerton from 4 Begonia Street Milnerton in September 2003 – just at the time that Yair was writing his matric preliminary examinations!

The room in this photograph had been the lounge for the previous owners. We decided to use it as an entrance hall and the ‘snooker room’ as the lounge.

On the left is a comfortable chair that my father Hackey purchased when he was a medical student. I had found it in our garage when we moved into 193 Kloof Road Clifton when l was 14, and adopted it then. It has been reupholstered a couple of times since.

Next to “Hackey’s Chair” is a chair that Aunty Millie Paradisgarten z”l made and which l was given by her sons on her death.

I always wanted a “proper” bookshelf and this was especially made to hold our books and to light up some of my ceramics.  On the bottom left are some of our National Geographic Magazines. Above that are two shelves of travel guides of cities and countries from around the world to which we have travelled. Also on the shelves is the complete set of Encyclopaedia Judaica, which we inherited from Hackey and Fanny. I remember looking up articles in the Encyclopedia growing up so l really wanted them! Today, of course, we don’t really look up information in physical encyclopaedias.
