The Wonder of Africa in the Wild for Sheryl’s 50th

Number 112: Birthdays tend to roll one into each other! We often can’t easily remember each one specifically.  But Sheryl’s 50th stands out as especially distinctive. We are both not “Big Bash” people and Sheryl did not want a party. But Sheryl’s parents arranged a lovely surprise family celebration for her 50th in May 2008!

Yair and Maya, both hugely creative, thoughtful and also conscientious prepared a wonderful calendar with Family Photographs – memories of precious experiences, one for each month of the year, that we still continue to page through from time to time.

And then to a Game Park called Shishangene  in Kruger National Park for four days, with everything one could wish for, laid on! Awesome experience – not often, from here in Cape Town, that we get to the “bush”, with regular game drives, also game walks: Giraffe – perhaps the most ubiquitous of all the game we saw, including many from our bedroom window!, the elusive leopard, lion, elephant, hippo, buffalo, wildebeest, zebra …..  Nothing quite like the wonder of Africa in the Wild: It is a humbling experience  – the sense of connection to and integration with all life, how small we each are in the greater universe, how special to be “away from it all” for a few days.
