Sailing the Silver Seas: 2
To be fortunate enough to travel is to have the chance, albeit fleeting, of experiencing a different world..an opportunity to see a place that moves at a pace far removed from Cape Town, or Kaapstad( in Afrikaans- often called Slaapstad- Sleepytown.).
We all need to buy food, but to see and taste the unique produce in the various markets, souks and restaurants around the world can be tasty , thrilling or just plain weird!
l love photographing the diverse doors, wonderful windows ,homes and unique architecture l have noticed while ambling around the towns and cities in the countries we have visited.
I love acknowledging the unique way some people dress- whether with a scarf, or a necklace, a piece of handmade fabric, or a beautiful piece of jewellery – it all contributes to the uniqueness of the individual.
Books and bookshops are a constant source of excitement and happiness to me. So to visit a wonderfully dynamic working library ( Vancouver Public Library designed by the world renowned Moshe Safdie comes to mind) and fabulous bookshops( Porto’s bookshop Livraria Lello where J K Rowling wrote her famous Harry Potter books – and now there is a fee and a long queue round the block to enter the bookshop)is extremely thrilling!
I value the effort, focus and dedication in the work of artists and the craftsmanship involved in hand-made works. Be it a piece of ceramics, a painting, or a crocheted blanket or any other artifact.
Nature- the seas, the waterfalls, the flowers, the hills , mountains and weather that all contribute to make a place unique- be it one of the wonders of the world or not is absolutely wonderful.
I particularly enjoy exploring the Jewish life of the cities around the world. We saw a beautiful shul made of a wooden ship in Istanbul which recognizes the temporary and nomadic lives of the wandering Jews… Or the fabulous Jewish museums and shuls we visited in Dubrovnik, Marrakesh and Delhi.(to name a few).
I look forward to further explore these and other themes on our travels in our extraordinary sailing opportunity around the world and on the silver seas.
