Number 85: After marrying, my parents lived with my Grandmother at her home at Livsof, Victoria Road, Bantry Bay. We children loved exploring  – then safe to do: Saunders Rock close by, the little shop that sold basic foodstuff, and visiting friends. The double storey house had a bedroom downstairs used by Charles Levy when studying at UCT.  Beautiful hydrangeas in the garden flowered at Xmas time. With three upstairs bedrooms, Ilana, Margo and I took turns having our own bedroom!

We moved to “Harofan” 193 Kloof Road, Clifton just before Sascha’ s birth in July 1972. Excitingly each of us now had our own bedroom to decorate and live in! It was large and comfortable with an easy walk to the Glen and beach. Ilana and I learnt to drive from there – not easy as beginners, driving over Kloof Nek!

In 1979 a Jewish caterer, after catering a party of my folks, offered to purchase and my father agreed!  Next: the challenge of finding another home for our large family! Enter 224 Ocean View Drive, Fresnaye, next to Aunty Sylvia and Uncle Benjy. It was a large, beautiful home with, after renovations! a beautiful garden and swimming pool, from which my parents entertained lavishly. Bedrooms faced the sea with a balcony from which you could watch the ships moving across the ocean. I lived there until marrying Ray in January 1983.

While we were in Israel my parents, with only Sascha still at home, bought a smaller home at 42 Avenue Disandt, Fresnaye with a swimming pool and lovely garden. Much time, nervous energy and money was again spent renovating to their satisfaction.

In the late 1990’s no longer wanting  to manage the swimming pool or garden they moved to 101 Bowenvale overlooking Mouille Point beachfront.  Discovering that their parking garage was immediately under their apartment, with Body Corporate permission, they built a direct access stairway into the apartment. This was extremely convenient and safer for Dad’s late night obstetrics calls! Dad was active on the Body Corporate and they lived happily at Bowenvale  for the rest of their lives.
