Number 74: This photograph of the four Edelstein children of Sascha and Sophie Edelstein, and their families, was taken in December 1973 at our home in Clifton. We moved there in August 1972, when Sascha was born. Uncle Tony was a keen photographer who would set the camera on the tripod and then run to be in the photograph

Seated Left to Right; Fanny with Sascha in her arms – Sheryl’s mother and brother, Irma  – Bennie’s wife, Winnie – Hackey’s sister, Sheila – Tony’s wife and Nanny (Margaret) – Housekeeper / member of family! who looked after Hackey especially after his mother had passed away.

In the front Left to Right: Sheryl, Margo  – Sheryl’s sister, Cecile  – Winnie and Eric’s daughter, Ilana  – Sheryl’s sister, Lynette – Bennie and Irma’s daughter; Dunne and in front Susan – both children of Tony and Sheila.

Missing from the photograph was Sharon Levy (daughter of Winnie and Eric, married and not in Cape Town) as well as Maurice and Sophelia  – children of Bennie and Irma.

Some of us close to each other in age! Sheryl, Cape Town and Susan, now Perth; Margo in Toronto and Dunne in Johannesburg; Ilana in Cape Town and Cecile in Johannesburg.

Sharon, Lynette and Sascha are now all in Melbourne. David and Sophelia are in Sydney. Charles is in Johannesburg and Maurice in Cape Town.

As at April 2020 Hackey and Fanny, Eric and Winnie, Tony and also Nanny have sadly passed away.

Bennie, who recently celebrated his 94th birthday, and Irma live in Sea Point, Cape Town as does Sheila. Their children visit on a regular basis -perhaps once a year one or two of the children come to visit their parents and we get the opportunity to see them and catch up. Unfortunately there is not the same pull to come to Cape Town when the parents are no longer there!

Many of our generation have also married and had children, multiplying the progeny of Sascha and Sophie!
